It's a social networking site for young people to tell their mates what they
are watching on TV or what they had for dinner last night. <g>

Actually it's not bad if used well. You join facebook and look for any of
your mates that are on it. If they accept your invitation to be friends you
now have a Faceboook web page which they can see and post to - and vice
versa. Essentially it's a personal forum and therefore handy for those who
don't have any web page facilities or abilities. It's better than email
because one post goes to all your friends but I guess most haven't heard of
Freelists which is much the same but in a different format. Facebook was
just better at advertising itself and it's now become an icon.

The strength/weakness of Facebook is that as soon as you accept a friend on
your page you are shown a list of his/her friends to add to your own friends
list. This is fine if they only have a few but I put one of the IVAO UK guys
on my list the other day and he had 350 friends on his list. It took ages to
decline all these.

I have a Facebook page but I don't use it much. I've set up a JHB group
within that page which is limited to us only - at least those on Facebook.
It's a standby facility we could use if this email list goes down - rare but
it has happened.
