urgent help required

Hi,

I have an urgent problem.  Whenever I try to scan the computer with Windows 
Defender for spyware after a while as the scan is on, the computer shuts down.  
otherwise the machine functions ok.  When I scaned the machine with norton it 
deleted one at-risk file.  but the problem persists.  please help.
