I am with you. I don't understand why people would not want to hear
information which is so important as to be possibly vital almost as vital
infact as hearing link or checkbox or radio button or button... I have seen
complaints to web masters from people who turn off everything and then
wonder why the site doesn't work for them. Yes, the flexibility available
in jaws is tantamount to daunting but it should be used with a lot of
thought. One of the things I like regarding the flexibility of jaws is the
myriad ways to go through a page, you can use find for specific strings, you
can use link lists, element lists, headings lists, jump from text block to
text block, link to link, list to list, table to table, so many in fact I'd
have to look them all up to publish them here.
If you look in the references for web site development, you'll find a lot of
information about "onmouseover". It is important that we get to know this
as well as we get to know any other fascette of a web page at the level of
the anchor or button etc because as time goes buy, till all is transformed
into something entirely different which will be inaccessible to jaws, we'll
increasingly need to use it. It is also possible that jaws will improve the
interface for it such that we can set it to show the changes in the same
space or announce that there are no changes or announce only those links
with Onmouseover which produce changes.
I hope this has helped because this is entirely the cause of this writing
before 7 am in the morning edt.

I've enjoyed reading this, but wondered why, if possible, people would want
to turn this feature off. Doesn't its existence provide necessary
information to understanding of a web site? I don't know enough to
understand all the facets of this discussion, but I usually want as much
info as possible and the mouse over links don't seem to interfere with what
I need to do.

the answer I provided was not useless nor was it a non answer. It was and
still is and will remain till we are told otherwise, the correct answer to
the question. For one thing, the turning on and off of on mouse over links
is not even a subject for discussion on this list which is why I posted my
explanation which you no doubt have seen by now. For another, We had this
discussion a few days ago and it was carried in two threads. The correct
term for this element attribute is on mouse over and the correct term for
the question is how do I stop jaws from indicating element attributes?
Since however, the question posed was: "how do I turn off mouse over links,
examining it provides a non sequetor but I deduced that the question was
actually: "how do I turn off on mouse over links?" To which I still
respond, it is not currently possible to do this in jaws, but you might want
to suggest that it be provided as a function in a future version of jaws.
