This can be pretty normal. Takes about 20 seconds or so for JAWS to come up
speaking after my windows sound, and then another 10 or so before I get the
desktop. 3.5 GHz dual, 4 G RAM. It's related to the number of items you have
pre-loading into memory during the boot process, and after Windows starts up.
There are others on this list who may have some ideas for clearing out some of
those pre-loaded drivers.

I'm running jaws 10 on a msi wind using eloquence..
xp home and 2gb ram.
after the windows sound it takes about 30 seconds before jaws speaks and
another few before the desktop is active.
any ideas?
someone said it was because the realspeak drivers are loaded into memory
reguardless of whether you use it.
