yes unless you do a save as and change the file name.

So for example if you open chapter 1.doc and make changes and then do a save
as then a dialog open showing you the file name that you have opened and made
changes to. You would then either save it with the same file name where then
you will receive a message asking if you are sure you want to replace the
original file.

Or you could change the file name say for example chapter1A.doc.

Then the original would not be altered and there would be a appended file
with the newest changes you make.

  Hope this helps

If you are opening the file in your editor and you make changes then when
you go and close the file the program will ask you if you would like to save
the changes to that file.

    Hi listers,
I have a folder full of chapters for a book. As I edit these chapters and
create replacement chapters will word automaticly replace the documents in the
folder? Here is an example. In the folder is a document that is named
"chapter one." When I edit chapter one will jaws ask me if I want to replace
chapter one that is in the folder? Thanks, Judith
