Good morning, Jim.

This is a narrow way of looking at FS's responsibility to its customers. If an accessibility problem is with MS Windows, should FS ignore it? Of course not. FS exists to make technology accessible and solve accessibility problems. If, as Rick suggests, FS has the capacity to develop a patch to stop Eloquence from causing a PC to crash, it should go ahead.

Incidentally, an earlier message informs us that Eloquence doesn't cause WindowEyes to crash. So it would seem the crashing problem is caused by the interaction of JAWS and Eloquence. All the more reason for FS to fix it.

Hi Rick sorry it should not be up to fs to fix this problem. It is not a fs problem but a problem with eloquence it self and so it should be the synthesizer manufacturer to fix the problem.

Better yet why doesn't FS issue a patch that will fix this problem in all versions of Jaws. They did this last year and unfortunately it didn't actually fix the problem. Maybe they should try the patch again as it's not

fair to make us find alternate synths to get around this problem. I have lot's of alternate synths but don't use any of them all the time. It shouldn't be up to the customer to find a fix around a reported problem that

goes back several versions of JAWS.

Hi Rick

Yep, but it only seems to work if you're using JAWS 8 build 2173, and a lot of folks on here who had the trouble with the messages were still using JAWS 7. So, that's why I recommended alternatives. If you don't like dectalk, you might try some of the other sapi 5 synths out there like the ones from AT&T, Neospeech, or the cd with the real speak voices that comes with JAWS 8. You don't necessarily need JAWS 8 to run those, as long as you have them on your system, they *should* work with JAWS and this whole problem with the weird letter combos crashing JAWS won't be so bad.

At 02:10 PM 7/5/2007, you wrote: I like eloquence and hate dec talk so that's no option for me. The latest build of Jaws 8 appears to finally deal with this and it's about time as we've only been reporting it to them for years now and the claim always came back that it was fixed when in reality it hadn't been fixed at all. Glad to see it's finally fixed.

Rick

Hi. This is exactly why I do ***not!!!!!*** use eloquence, I can get these messages all day long and have no trouble with them at all. This is why I strongly urge everyone using JAWS, find alternative synthesizers to use. I'm using dectalk access 32. No problems getting these messages, JAWS doesn't crash for me at all.

Alan, this might be because you're using a synthesizer other than Eloquence. I believe that word only crashes if you're using Eloquence, whether the integrated version or the SAPI version. It may
also crash if you're using IBM ViaVoice. I'm currently using SAPI5
sas my synthesizer so we'll see what happens. On Thu, 5 Jul 2007

hi all, Thanks to this Amy or whoever this is she has made JAWS 8.0.423 demo crash more frequently! There was an e-mail she sent out which has a subject line beginning with h, and this is making JAWS crash so much that I'm a bit scared now. I'm having to use either Narrator or NVDA just to delete the damn thing. Sorry if I sound demanding, but mods if you see any of this please deal with this as soon as possible. Thank you.
