May I make one refinement to this suggestion, which is basically the answer
to the mysterious problem? And that is that you don't have to be in the
list view of your Outlook Express messages to find this setting on your View
menu, for that's where it is. You can also be on the left side pane of the
screen, in your Outlook Express folders tree view.

In either case, you open the View menu by pressing alt V, make sure you're
on the Current View option, then right arrow or hit Enter to open the
submenu that you hear is there (the "dot dot dot"().

Now arrow down (or up, doesn't matter as you can just cycle around in this
menu) until you come to the option Group Messages. As the man says, if it's
checked, just hit Enter to uncheck it, and that will close the menu and take
care of the whole thing, and you won't be mystified by all that stuff any
more.

Again, you don't have to be in just the files list view of your Inbox
messages or any other folder's messages. You can be in the folders list.
But note that you can't do this when you have a message open. In this case,
the View menu changes its options and the current view option isn't
available.

You have messages grouped by conversation. To change it, in the list
view, hit alt V for view. Then enter on current view, arrow till you
hear group by conversation. If it is checked and if you don't want it,
hit enter.

I have more questions regarding the "collapsed/expanded" announcements.
Why does it occur?

What does it mean?
If I go to the "view menu while I am on a message with either the
collapsed
or expanded announcement, then, JAWS will be able to use the expanded or
collapsed option in that menu. Normally, both of these options are "not
available".
If my message is "collapsed, and I go to the menu bar under "view and
enter
on the available option, then JAWS change the message to the opposite
option. For example, if the message is "collapsed it gets changed to
expanded.

Also, on these messages, when I open the message to read, I get a prompt
in
the JAWS voice to "use the reading keys".

Thanks for any help and how to use this feature.
