I believe you. But there was something about the way I misunderstood how to
handle moving around this tree, which in my impression of it wasn't like a
familiar tree structure and keystroke sequence in Windows Explorer, for
instance, that confused me really badly. I *heard* Jaws say that certain
items were open, just as I'd have heard in a tree structure, but in some way
I didn't *really* hear it or believe it, and missed the clue. Why, I have
no idea.
If that's impossible to imagine, I don't blame you from how simple and
fairly obvious you say it actually is. But I don't know how to account for
the confusing impression I had of that menu, either. I'm just glad I WAS
ABLE TO MANAGE THAT ONE issue. Again, I don't know what to say, and if it
seems I misread your instructions or Rick's until the very end, I don't know
why. Honest. But now that I've got that problem hammered, I'll go back to
the menus and play around with them some more at my leisure and try to
figure out which ones work in that same way.
So thanks again. It wasn't your fault at all, I can pretty well assure you.
I just missed something, somewhere. And I'm relieved to have finally made my
move to AVG 8 so I can stop worrying about the whole thing.

It is not a menu dude. It is a tree view. Follow the directions step by
step as I posted them you will have no problems. I have done this on three
computers just to make sure so far have had no problems what so ever
following my own directions.

top make it even stranger, not only does that menu seem to change every time
I go back to it, but it changes depending on whether I try to move through
it with the Tab key or the arrow keys. And once I tried pressing Enter on
one line having to do with email scanning, but that just got me a blank
screen or something. Another time, I arrowed, and heard something that was
in an entirely different category. It's as if Jaws has no focus at all.
I'm not sure I'm describing this accurately enough to provide a believable
and understandable picture of the strange experience this menu is for me.
But it's weird. Seriously.

It's very simple. Goto tools menu and down to advanced settings press
enter. then in the tree arrow down to email scanning. Tab to the
certification boxes and uncheck them Tab to ok and press enter.
No jaws cursor is necessary at all.

And how do you access the tools/advanced settings/appearance submenu in
order to turn off the certification notice and do whatever is necessary to
stop emails you receive from showing an attachments symbol when they have no
actual attachments? I somehow managed to stop this behavior in AVG's 7.5,
but now it's returned in version 8 and, unlike in 7.5, I can't figure out
how to stop it happening. The submenu that I think might be critical to this
effort has to be approached by using the Jaws cursor to even be blimpsed,
and even then it's not easy (okay, for me impossible) to to figure out how
to check or uncheck whatever in order to clean up this very annoying
problem.
