While individuals can do this, it may be less possible for those
whose employers are making computer purchasing decisions over the
next year. We always have this problem us screen reader users - a
new operating system comes out and employment is possibly threatened
or we loose the gains so hard won. The challenge of making Windows
3.1 available to blind users was a big one, with a long gap between
the launch of the Operating System and first screen reader. The time
taken when Windows95 was less, and so it goes - we had screen readers
for Windows XP in short order, although there was the famous DMC
issue. Over the evolutio of screen access, the nubmer of screen
reader developers has fallen, (for various reasons certainly) but one
must be research and development and keeping up with Microsoft. I
think screen reader developers have to keep reducing that time lag
between operating system and new screen acess solutions, but I do
understand the fears regarding instability.

I'm sticking with xp. This OS is stable, and vista will probably do something really crazy to not let you copy music. Who knows.
