Windows Messenger contacts status

Hi people,
I'm using Jaws 8.0.422 with Windows Messenger 5 (XP Home) and Jaws is
incorrectly reporting the status of my contacts when the program
starts. When I start the program, Jaws reports 0/4 as the number of
contacts on-line and the number of contacts. It does this even when
contacts are on-line. If I arrow down then back up, Jaws correctly
reports the status of my contacts. Any help much appreciated.
