What is a definition list?

I reinstalled Jaws 10 and now I hear Jaws say something like the following on 
web pages.  

"definition list of n items"  "n" would be replaced by a number.

Only way I know to get Jaws to stop saying this is to turn off announcement of 
lists.

But, what is a definition list anyway?
