hi Peter,
Yeah, a bit faster. It is reliable when using JAWS, but there are some things which JAWS does not read, such as User Account Control, Windows Logon screen and so forth (I have to use Window-Eyes for this).
Cheers,
Joseph

Oh great, doesn't sound so bad after all
then.

How does Vista perform with JAWS? Do programs
load faster? Is JAWS more or
less reliable in it's performance?
Peter

Hi Kimberly,
Go to Start/Control
Panel/Personalization/Theme and make sure to change
the Theme to Windows Classic. Then from
Personalization, go to Window
Color and Appearance and change the color
setting to Windows Classic.
This should remedy your problem.
Basically I've started recording the
podcast.
Cheers,
Joseph

I have user account control disabled, and it
still wouldn't let me change
the time, because it wouldn't read the list
boxes, or what ever they are
called, spin boxes I think, where you change
the time. That other program
read it though. Big grin! We're not
mentioning any names here. I'm sure
this will be fixed soon. Thanks and let us
know when your podcast is ready.
I'm anxiously awaiting it!

Hi Kimberly and list,
I also use Vista with JAWS 8.0.1163. The
reason why JAWS will not read
fields on certain applications is that by
default Vista uses what's called
UAC (User Account Control). This is used to
block access to key system
areas from users, such as changing
date/time, installing hardware or
software, and other similar operations that
require administrator rights.
You can easily disable UAC (which is what
I've done).
I'm currently working on a podcast for Blind
Cool Tech on using Windows
Vista for the first time. In this podcast,
I'll talk about new features
in Windows Vista and tips and tricks that
you should know. For about 90%
of the podcast, I'll use JAWS, but for some
segments I'll use Window-Eyes.
(I'd guess that this is not a good topic to
discuss here, so if anyone has
any comments, please write to me off list)
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Shawn. I am using it. I got a new
laptop, which had Vista, and didn't
have a choice. I am using JAWS beta and the
Window Eyes beta also. JAWS
still definitely has its problems. I needed
to change the time on it, and
when I went to date/time in control panel,
JAWS wouldn't read the fields to
change it. I had to switch to the Window
Eyes beta, which did just fine.
You also have to disable what is called User
Account Control before JAWS
will work. There are instructions on how to
do this in the JFW website. It
work fairly well on most things I've tried it
with so far, but there are
definite glitches. Another example is a site
I go to to pay bills wouldn't
read all the list boxes in edit mode, so I
had to go do it on my computer
with XP.

My advice is to get Vista to play with, and
keep XP to work with, and then
move to Vista gradually as they work out the
bugs. hth

Anybody else who is using Vista, please speak
up on here as well. Does
anybody know if there is a list dedicated to
Vista only for JAWS users?
Thanks and have a nice day!----- Original

Well, Is anyone using it yet? Hows it work?

I didn't want to make the plunge till later
on but it's starting to look
like I am going to. Sooner than I thought.

Does the new Jaws public data work with it?
Okay? baddly?

Any feedback would be helpfull.

Thanks
Shawn
