Okay. I'm laughing. Sometimes, it seems as if every time I turn around,
there's some new Jaws function or menu item that's been given a misleading
name and isn't accompanied by any reassuring instructions. They couldn't
have thought of an overall name for this so that the end user wouldn't even
have to think "Gosh, you mean, I'm gonna wind up activating something?
Activating what? That's not what I wanted to do! Darn."

Sigh.

So, thanks.

Yes, just click on Activate and go through the whole procedure...
strange as that is!

Hi,
Just yesterday, I went to the activate area of FS/Jaws Headquarters on
the
Web, followed the procedure for checking on my SMA status, and was
satisfied
to find that I'm listed as being authorized for Jaws 8, which I'm
currently
running, plus to upgrades.

But,needless to say, my About Jaws window in the Jaws Help menu is out
of
synch with this, and says that I have 0 upgrades remaining. Now, please

note, I know the information online is correct. I'm not worried about
the
disparity. But just on principle, I'd like to make the info in About
Jaws
square with reality. Of course, if you have to do this yourself every
time,
I don't see the utility of having the info there in the first place.
Lot of
help that is.

In any case, I went to the Help menu as suggested below, and clicked on
the
Update function. Well, I'm sure this is just another bit of clumsy
instructional writing on FS's part, but the only option there is called

Activate. Now, of course, I'm not trying to activate anything. If I
didn't
suspect these, I'd in fact be afraid that proceeding with this would
unnecessarily activate my current copy of Jaws all over again,
relieving me
of an ILM key to no purpose at all.

Can someone reassure me that it's in fact related to the similar
confusion I
had online when, just to check my upgrade status, I had to go through a
step
or two of what at first also looked as if I were about to reinstall
Jaws? I
mean reactivate it? Whatever?

Is it safe? You click on this Activate button and it takes you through
some
steps that simply update your About Jaws information, not anything
else?

Thanks.

You're absolutely right- amazing! Thanks. Even though folks
correctly
said not to be concerned, it's pretty neat that you knew how to make
the
count look correct again.

Go to Help, and choose update authorization. This will restore your
count.

OK folks. The free update took an SMA on my computers also. What is
the best/most appropriate way to contact FS re this? Thanks.

Cher
