Good afternoon Kimberly,That is correct. All you need to do is purchase the Scansnap and it comes with the Scansnap Manager, Abby Finereader and Adobe Acrobat applications. Now, let me state that this is what came in my Scansnap box, you will obviously want to verify that your model comes with the same.

Hello Everet and Mitch: If you don't mind me butting into your conversation... Everet, are youessentially saying that all you need is the Scan Snap scanner and you don'tneed any additional software to scan documents and make them readable with JAWS? I too am looking for an OCR solution and am exploring all avenues. Thanks for any input on this subject. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of E.J. Here is the way the flow of the applications goes. 1. You run the document through the scanner. 2. The Scansnap Manager application (accessible with JAWS) decides what to do with the scanned images. This can be anything from storing it in afolder to converting it to PDF / MS Word. And you can set a default actionor make the choice everytime you process a document. 3. If you have set Scansnap manager to convert to PDF / MS Word the imagesare sent to the AbbyFinereader API. Note that this is not a full version ofAbby that you would purchase commercially. It is an API that is designed specifically to work with the Scansnap Manager. As a user you never have any interaction with the Finereader interface. 4. If the images are sent to Abby Finereader then they are processed into the selected document type and saved on your computer. 5. You go find the files (normally My Documents/ScansnapManager) and openthem in Acrobat / Word. As I believe I mentioned in an earlier post AcrobatPro comes with the scanner. This is more than a reader, it allows you to dosome editing of the PDF document and it is somewhat accessible with JAWS. I tried in vane to reply to Everett off list but of course the Insert + Shift + R keystroke still does not work. DJM Hi Everett, I found your post very helpful and instructive concerning Scanners and OCR. I am using JAWS 9 and XP Home with an old HP scanner and a demo of Open Book. Does the ABBEY Finereader product have its own speech or can it use JAWS? A quick search for the Fujitsu Scansnap S500 showed a $349 price after a $50 rebate until 30 September from Tiger Direct, FWIW. This combination of OCR with the Fujitsu scanner sounds like a greatsolution to me as I find the Open Book product insanely over priced for myhumble needs. Thanks again for your help.
