In the View menu, press enter on Toolbars then make sure the Formatting
toolbar is checked

Select the cells you want to merge

press the alt key to open the menu bar then press Control tab until you
land on the Formatting toolbar (it usually starts with "Font")

Arrow across to the "Merge and Centre" button and press enter

Your cells will be merged and any text will be centred. You can change
the text alignment by again using the Formatting toolbar access as
described above, then arrow along to the "Left Align" or "Right Align"
botton as required.
