Catherine, I had a similar problem in a Word document. I changed the font in the entire document to Aerial, regular font, 12 point, and JAWS was able to read the text using the PC cursor in the normal fashion. If you still have the document, I wood be interested in knowing if changing the font makes a difference for you. I realize that the font in the document you were having problems with contained a generally acceptable font, but as we all know, computers act strangely for many unknown reasons. Sometimes exiting and restarting JAWS corrects focus problems as well.
