In respect to JFW 8, using this version does indeed take away those
annoying key echoes. So that's great advice; thanks. One of my
systems--not the one I'm using now, but another one--does still have
Logitech software on it. That JAWS has its own keyboard driver,
conflicting with other keyboard drivers, makes sense; because every
time I start JAWS, iTouch gives me an annoying prompt to see if I want
to turn on or download iTouch News. So maybe I should just flat-out
remove Logitech software from that system. But I don't want to do
this, because the keyboard on it is a special one that my wife and
mother-in-law, who are sighted, can get some value from: the built-in
wheel mouse and buttons used for scrolling, etc.
So how do you place the iTouch configuration on the desktop while
taking the annoying elements of this out of the Start Menu?
Thanks, all. I've learned a lot from this exercise, even though it's
been a bit aggravating.
Incidentally, is there not a way to remove specific items from the
System Tray? If there is an icon on it that I don't want to be there,
how can I make sure this does not load into the System Tray on next
startup?

your system tray when you start up your system at the sametime JAWS is
running?
What I do is place the iTouch Configuration on my desktop and kill it from
starting up on its own I also go into control panel and tell the Keyboard
set up that I use a microsoft compatible keyboard, nothing special and the
multi function keyboard buttons still work.

Yes, specific to the last question: At least one of the keyboards I'm using
is Logitech. The funny thing about this quirk is that it doesn't show up in
the same way with all keyboards. This bizarre key echo situation is
specific to just certain keyboards, and the identity of the key "echoed"
with these multimedia buttons is different depending on which keyboard I'm
using. Is there a way I can customize this in Logitech software? If so,
knowing how to do this (off-topic) might also help me to customize the use
of the multimedia keys as hot buttons--say, to open my e-mail program or a
spreadsheet with just one button.
