Chris,

Okay, I just downloaded the last version of Jaws 7.1 for Win XP from the FS
site (I hadn't notice the "more" link on the downloads page). Now I have a
few questions.

When Jaws 7.1 was released, I never downloaded and installed it at the time
on top of my Jaws 7.0 because half the people on this list were calling it a
real disaster. But I did download it this time, just now. I'm not about to
install it yet, because next time I talk to tech support, they're going to
have me uninstall all Jaws versions and then do a cleanup thing that will
remove all traces from the Registry. I think, anyway. So why bother, at the
moment.

Which means I'll be uninstalling 6.2 plus the 7.0 that I'm using now while
Jaws 8 isn't yet fixed. So, if it happens that tech support still can't get
Jaws 8 to install properly for me despite all this cleaning up, I'll want to
reinstall an earlier version so I can continue to function at my computer.

and even if we *do* manage to install Jaws 8 and get it running, I will
still want to install one earlier version to use in case the success doesn't
last long.

My question here is, first of all, will it be okay to run the install for
this Jaws 7.1 even though it precedes version 8? That's not a problem? Also,
I see that what I downloaded is 65 Mb. I'm guessing that's a full program,
yes? So it won't refuse to install because I've deleted Jaws 7.0? Hope not.
If it's a complete program and not sort of an add-on, it ought to. Right?

Last question is, and you may think I'm either teasing or being sarcastic,
but I'm not. What did you mean by saying that"FS likes to
call this package from the web?" What does it mean to call something from
the Web? I'm guessing it's probably a regular old tech sort of way to say
something else, and everyone knows the expression, but I don't. So could you
rephrase that in regular speech? Seriously. Thanks. I know very little
tech-type talk, and the only use of "call" I remember learning as a tech
sort of expression is when you are describing something like a nested
macro, where x calls y, meaning that one element of the macro invokes
another one, so that the two actions become chained in sequence. Is there
another use that's sort of like this? Where a company would "call" something
from the Web, the way a desk clerk would phone the warehouse to have
something brought into the retail store, sort of? I can't imagine what the
scenario would be, exactly.

Thanks a lot.
The main thing is, is it okay for me to eventually install this 7.1
independently, rather than only while 7.0 is uninstalled? And is it okay to
be doing that when Jaws 8 is already on the system? No conflict because of
getting something out of order?
Haws idependently,install this

Dan

You can most certainly still get earlier JAWS versions, FS likes to
call this package from the web, which is the downloadable versions.
to get to them, click the following link.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/morejaws.asp
that'll take you right to a page where you can download all of the
previous JAWS 7 versions.

Hope this helps.
