Hi Nancy/Kevin Don't know whether this is of help or not. We have Vista Home Premium on our PC and Jaws 9. I am a sighted mum to blind adult twins, so I did this, not knowing if this is exactly what you want. I went to windows explorer and opened up a txt file and it opened in notepad (is this what you want?). Turned on our external hard drive to have it show up in the list of options. Not knowing the appropriate jaws commands, tried to save the document elsewhere. Alt+F (gave me S Save, A Save As) so arrowed and entered on Save As, then pressed tab and that puts you at File Name (N), tab again to Save as type (t), tab again puts you at Browse Folders (think it said Alt+b), tab again puts you at encoding (Alt+E), kept tabbing and got to Save; Cancel; and then to toolbar (activate press space bar) and I think it said "tab bar, split button to activate press space bar). Visually this has the location where you want the file to go. I think it was "Active" so I arrowed down as it is a drop down arrow and on ours had options like, desktop; OEM; Public; Computer. I entered on computer and that visually opened a screen and was active so I arrowed around and I could select the external drive if I wished. I guess has I didn't go any further you just enter and then maybe tab back to save and hopefully that will work. Don't know. If you can make any sense out of that see if it works. As a note we are having issues with Jaws 9 on our PC running Vista Home Premium and a new laptop running Jaws 9 running Vista Business. The common factors so far are Jaws 9, Vista and Office Professional 2007. When running an old Office 2000 programme on the Vista/Jaws 9/Business laptop, the problem of locking/loss of speech/and a weird extra document created when exiting word is not happening. We are still in the process of experimenting to hopefully resolve the issue. Did try to use Jaws in email and some key locking was happening and arrow keys not working but at this stage don't know whether it was related to having just been into word (where all the problems seem to be). Kind Regards Phyl Smith. (sorry if this is of no help, and not sure whether I made myself clear--old age and mind overload!) -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kevin Prince Sent: Wednesday, 26 March 2008 3:25 p.m. To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Saving a Document In Another Location Don't worry about it Nancy - as it said it wasn't broke but Vista fixed it! <broad grin> First a caveat - the only vista machine that I can access is 700 odd miles away so I am not getting any JAWs feedback via a remote connection and having to cheat as a sighted user! Once you get into the browse window it gives you access to folder lists in the same way that you'd be used to them in XP except the names are often bizarrely different. Once you reach a list by tabbing you can then arrow down to find the folder you like. That's not too clear I realize but I'm hoping one of our colleagues with a JAWS Vista machine closer at hand will leap to our mutual rescue here. Rich, when I type e: todo.txt in the name field it tells me the name is not valid. I've tried taking spacesout, I've tried changing the e to another letter, but it all gives me a message that name is not valid. Kevin, okay, so I tab till I hear browse button. I activate it by pressing space bar. But I still don't find anywhere that it allows me to save to my external hard drive...or even to My Documents...or to any other location. I am so new to using Vista that I really do need more explanation. Can you help? I appreciate everyone being so patient with me. Thank you so very much!
