how interesting,I have help at times from a friend who has professional equipment my Jaws both 10 and 11 are just for home users I forget the term is it premium? anyway so far it has been free and I did hear last year it would become chargeable eventually, is that no longer the case? I must say it can be a life saver it works on both windows 7 computer and XP, it beats a local engineer who knows nothing about assistive technology, but put in software called log me in ,that is free, but it meant if my computer was on with no warning he could log on and tinker around with settings, I have disabled that now, the tandem feature your computer is in the hands of a trusted friend , who is using Jaws, long may it last Incidentally I see the Lighthouse Post is not as I had imagined some poor Jaws user stuck in alighthouse and begging for fixes from fs, but a very interesting organisation Dorothy

Ray, my question about jaws tandem is crossing from jaws 10 to 11, they don't seem to work together, you know what I mean, though both support jfw xp, they cannot work together from one version to the other. I wonder why, and if that issue hasn't been addressed. Curtis Deliver. HS. on Friday 8/13/2010 10:25 AM, Ray Campbell said:
Hello: What this discussion comes down to is a question, what should your screen reader do for you? First and foremost, I believe a screen reader should provide me access to the things I need to use on my computer at work or at home as its main function. When I say access, I mean that with the assistance of the screen reader I should be able to perform all of the functions using whatever applications I need to use just the same as someone not using a screen reader. If this level of access can be achieved, then let's add useful features. For example, I use JAWS Tandem extensively on my job. Freedom Scientific didn't have to provide this feature starting in JAWS 10. After all, there are other ways to provide remote assistance out there. But, Freedom Scientific did provide this feature because they realized for the most part, other remote assistance tools were not accessible and that there are people who are blind working in technical support work. While I would rather have see n FS and the other screen reader companies tackle making mainstream remote assistance tools accessible, I'm extremely happy with JAWS Tandem. Several have mentioned other features like Research It, and the UPS thing. While some may say these are not essential features, for others they are useful and helpful in the ways they use the computer. It is my feeling that as long as providing these features does not take away from what I believe the main purpose of a screen reader is, then they should be included.
