Dear Friend,I have been using Gmail configured with Outlook Express for over 2 years and do face the problem mentioned by you from time to time.
When this problem happens, I can still download mails from my Gmail account but cannot send mails. The problem rectifies itself after some time, approximately after a half hour or so.
I would be interested to know if any other member has faced a similar problem and found a solution to it.

Hello All: I'm working with a client and we're having problems getting Outlook Express to access her messages on gmail. Here's what we've done, following the instructions in the gmail help center for pop access. 1. We enabled pop access in her gmail account. 2. We went into Outlook Express and set the following: A. Display name, her full name. B. E-mail address, her gmail address. C. Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com D. Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com E. Account name: her full gmail address. F. Password: her password. G. Set both incoming and outgoing mail servers for SSL incryption, and set the outgoing server port to 465. The incoming port automatically switched to 995. G. We checked the box that says "my server requires authentication." When she tried sending a message through her gmail account, we got a message saying "the host smtp.gmail.com could not be found." How can this be when we followed all the gmail help for pop access? Anyone out there successfully been able to access gmail with a pop3 client?
