I had one of the LIDE models, I forget which one and it worked just great in combo with my craptop for a couple of years hard and heavy use. Only two things:

1. It is a fairly lightweight construction and too much pressure on the glass can squeeze the moving bar against either the glass or bottom of the unit, causing the bar to stall and emit a grinding sound.

2. Like a person with poor vision, there is less tolerance for the print being far away from the glass than, for example, is the case with my old trusty Epson 1200.

Despite the forgoing, I've scanned hundreds of books using kurzweil and the two of use, me and my cheesy scanner, got along just fine thank you. When I was a Kurzweil dealer, I showed it at CSUN and was in danger of the jealous types stealing the skinny little beasty.

What you want to do is find a store who will accept returns should you not find the scanner satisfactory; if your chosen store won't do that, then you might find another place to do business.

finally, check on the freedom scientific web site; I seem to recall this scanner being mentioned as compatible.

Doug: Hug your scanner gently!
