Outlook 2003,turning off spam filter

Can anyone tell me how to do the above. I've been having a regular
correspondence with a friend. On several occasions he sent me emails which
I did not receive. Today, after another such incident, I looked in my
"junk" folder. It had 70 emails. About 15 were spam. The rest were
ordinary emails from lists and the missing ones from my friend. I'd rather
delete a bit of spam than miss important messages.
