I would think that you have a dynamic IP address. When you restored your system, you probably restored it to a point with an earlier DHCP address. First, try unplugging the modem from its power source and turning your pc off for at least three minutes. Plug the modem back in, connect it to your pc, start your pc and see if it recognizes the modem. If that isn't successful, then you might try the ipcfg command, or winipcfg from a Win 98 machine. Hit on release on the SBC Connection. Then, see if your internet options will automatically find the connection again.
