Dave, Excellent advice! Previous editions of Windows provided a "checkdisk" tool. I don't believe XP and beyond does. It may be because hard drives have gotten to be huge. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of dave-d0619 Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2008 4:09 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: MAINTENANCE for computer not jaws. No criticism, but you should run a disk checking program on any drive or disk before using a program to defragment any drive or disk that you want defragmented. Very often, defragmenting programs cannot or, will not, complete their task if the programs encounter incorrectly assigned track, sector and data errors on a hard drive or disk. That is why running a disk checking program first is so important.
