Laptop compatibility

I am purchasing a new laptop computer (my old one is getting near its end)
and would like to know if there are any laptop, or CPUs to stay away from.
I remember that there used to be issues with the Centrino CPUs (is this
still an issue)????
I've also noticed that many of the new laptops are being shipped with
Windows Media Edition; does anyone know if the standard version of JAWS work
for this OS or will I need to change to Windows Home/Vista standard or
upgrade to JAWS for Windows Professional?
