Hopefully this will help to explain things.

When you have an SMA with FS, you have no control whatsoever over when it is used. If you have version 6, with one SMA left, that means that when the version comes out after 6 that requires an SMA, you are authorized to use that version, whether you choose to do so or not. It cannot be defered, you have no choice in the matter whatsoever. When you purchase an SMA, you are telling FS that you want JAWS authorized for the current version plus the next two versions that require an SMA.

In the case of 6.1 and 6.2, these are so-called free upgrades, and do not require an SMA. So if you were authorized for version 6, with one SMA remaining, you are now authorized for version 7. You can't say I don't want to be authorized for version 7, you automatically are, and your SMA is applied.

Let's say one had another SMA remaining but decided they didn't want to use it for version 7 so decided to save it for JAWS version 8. I'm quite certain you would find that when you got to version 8 that the skipped SMA you had saved from version 7 would no longer be available to you as a free upgrade. With FS you have to buy into each and every upgrade so that means you will have to pay for them sooner or later as long as you continue to be a JAWS user.

I don't think it would be accurate however if you renew your sma and you were down to your final upgrade. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Toews" <dogriver@xxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2005 8:23 AM Subject: RE: a couple of questions about Jaws 7.0

To elaborate a little on what Jim said, you go to "about" under "help",
and one of the things it will say is you have so-and-so many SMA's
remaining. If this number is higher than zero, you are entitled to JAWS 7.
This has often not been accurate under the Quela authorization scheme, but
under ILM it has been accurate.

I don't know if my current SMA covers it,
If you have a sma then you are covered. Last time I check going to
about will let you know if you are in titled to an upgrade.
Another way to check is download 7.0 if it works in normal mode then you
are eligible if it runs as a demo then you will need to call fs and
upgrade.

Also I saw on there that MSN messenger 7.0 is now supported. I am running Windows-XP home here and have Windows messenger 5.0 installed. If someone else is running MSN messenger 7.0 will I still be able to text chat and voice chat with them or do I need to upgrade? No need to upgrade window messenger is just fine you will have no problems with people running msn messenger 7. Hth Than
