Hello to Matthew:

Turning everything off in the "start up" tab page in msconfig, Is not a good
idea because it can prevent programs from running properly when you start them
from within Windows, as they may need to perform important routines and
functions during the booting process in order for a successful start up of
Windows to be completed.

Without those functions and routines, Windows will probably not boot
successfully.

Without a successful start up process of Windows, we as individuals who have
limited or no vision haven't got a clue as to why the start up process did not
complete.

Because JAWS will not work in safe mode, as far as I know, As a result, we
cannot undo the changes in safe mode for us to then get a successful boot when
re-starting Windows.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Look, in, "don't know vista's control panel name), but there should be
something like
accessibility options, under display, cursor blink rate, and cursor width,
set it to 0.
The blink rate is by default, 63 percent.

  Hi All,

It's me again. The problem still exists though I changed the subject line to
try to be more specific.

This message is only for those who love a challenge! Who absolutely love to
solve puzzles that have not been solved by even the top level of tech support
at Freedom Scientific.

  So here goes.

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop.
I am using Jaws 9.0.2152 though this problem also occurred with Jaws 9.0.552.

The problem: I am in an email in Windows Mail. Jaws will read the message
someone else sends me with no problem. I can use the arrow keys to read line
by line if I choose and no problem.
The problem occurs when I type an email message and try to review what I've
typed by using the arrow keys.
I arrow up and it reads the line.
I arrow down and it reads the above line again.
It does this throughout the message so I really am never sure which line I'm
actually on.
And it does not matter if I press the arrow keys quickly or if I wait several
seconds between changing arrow directions.

The weird thing is that it does not do this when reading a message that
someone else has sent me.

Now it will also have this problem when I use the arrow keys to read line by
line in a NotePad document or a Word document.

It does not have this problem when reading pages on the internet.

  What we have done...

  The window is maximized.
The display resolution is set at 1280 by 768.
  The font size is normal.
  The cursor size is normal.
  The video driver is updated.
The video card is intel gma950
  The theme is Windows Vista.

Today John, top level of FS tech support had us uninstall Jaws completely
with all its components and then reinstall it.

  But that changed nothing.

I keep thinking it's something simple that we're overlooking but, for the
life of me, I can't figure this out.

So if you love a challenge then go for it! Send me your best troubleshooting
 ideas.

And know that I will be sincerely grateful.

  Nancy
