Normally I would agree, but this only started happening after I installed
Norton 2006. I can't say 100% for certain then that Norton is the problem,
but to me everything points strongly in that direction.

I noticed that there's an antispyware feature in the program, and what
appears to be a firewall because as I have opened a couple of programs over
the past couple of days a Norton dialogue has popped up wanting me to okay
the program, is there any chance that something like that could be scanning
in the background several times a day that could be causing the
sluggishness? If anything might be doing this I would suspect the
antispyware portion of the program, is there any way of disabling that and
see if it makes a difference since I have SpyWareBlaster and SpyWareGuard
already installed?

Also, does anybody know how good and reliable the free AVG antivirus is? I
might try it and see if it's any better if they keep their updates
up-to-date as often as say Norton does.

Well, if it isn't doing anything then it's hard to say Norton's the
program responsible for it... a program just running and not actually
being used only sits there, not really occupying much in the way of
system resources.
