Frankie

I am using AVG as my anti virus program.

Ever since this error message appeared, we could do nothing with the
computer.

I agree, I do not really think this has anything to do with Jaws. A remark
was just made that "it is interesting that the problem began when the friend
wanted to put Jaws back".

Perhaps it was just one of those rare coincidences: that when my friend
wanted to put Jaws back the problem occurred - perhaps a matter of "timing"
which had nothing to do with Jaws.

I suspect a virus or damaged hard disc at this point.

Renette

This doesn't really sound like a JAWS issue. Did you run a full virus scan
and a spyware scan? Does your (apparently) sighted friend get this message
when trying to run any other programs besides JAWS?

Subject: Jaws and error message

Hi Everybody

On my desktop computer I am using Jaws 8 and Windows XP Home.

A friend of mine often uses the computer and then disables Jaws.

Yesterday when he wanted to put Jaws back, we got the following error
message (which we now get whenever the computer is switched on):

"error reading disc occurred; press control, alt, delete".

When I press control, alt, delete, I get another message:
"searching for boot record from floppy".

Then I am back to square one.

Obviously Jaws does not speak and I can do absolutely nothing with the
computer.

From what I have found out, the problem might be caused by a virus (but then
I am using AVG free edition; latest version) or my hard drive could be
damaged. (The computer is about 4 years old).

Just for in case there is another option - something to do with the process
of disabling and reloading Jaws again, does anybody have an idea/opinion?

Thanks.

Renette
