Hi, there,
No argument here on how good the set of programs is. Yes, I've tried
it with Window Eyes. It was much the same story as with Jaws. You
are correct in that the problem does indeed lie with the Java
interface. Jaws and Java or, should I say, windows-based screen
readers and Java just don't seem to be able to communicate very well.
I don't know why. The Java Access Bridge was suposed to have helped
with all that but, I don't think there has been any new development of
that program since about 2006. I suspect that if it weren't because
of that Java component, Open Office would work just fine right out of
the box. Writer seems to be the most promising part of the package in
so far as accessibility is concerned. I had no success with Impress
or Calc the presentation software and spreadsheet software
respectively. If I knew more about scripting with Jaws, I'd try my
hand at making some Jaws scripts and offering them to the general
public but, I know next to nothing about the subject.

Regards,
Alex
