You update java by going to java.sun.com and look for the java runtime or java development kit, what ever you need, and download that. Actually, before you do, remove your old java and old folders and files in that java directory. This procedure works if your upgrading from one major release, 1.4.1 to 1.4.2, but is not necessary when going from minor to minor release, 1.4.1_02 to 1.4.1_05. For updating from one minor release to another, use the java update feature in the java controll pannel which is in the windows controll pannel.
