Java can be accessible as long as the programmer uses the language correctly and, when needed, adds accessibility to the application. I worked for a company that developed an application in Java that was fully accessible with JAWS - not JAWS scripted, the features were built into the application. Have the programmer start here: http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/index.jsp ________________________________ From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Chris Smart Sent: Sat 2/14/2009 10:09 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Java and Jaws? Hi folks. I'm in contact with a software developer who codes in Java, I assume so he can work using his MAC but have his program work on other platforms, like Windows-based PC's. Is there any way to write accessible Java, either accessible to JFW on the PC or VoiceOver on the Mac? He's a very approachable and open guy, so I'd like to offer him something useful. I hope I won't have to just say "nope, Java means not accessible for us". In other words, I want to find some sort of option for him if he does decide to pay attention to accessibility concerns. thanks for any info I can pass along, Chris -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
