Ron,

First, what type of connection do you have to the Internet?

If it is DSL or CAble, then I assume you have a dynamic IP address rather than
a static IP address. If this is correct, you have an issue with network
address translation. Try hooking the PC directly to your modem and see if you
can do a voice conversation that way.

If you don't have cable/DSL, then you need to make sure you enable the
appropriate ports in your firewall. These depend on whether you are using
Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger.

If you have problems, I may be able to help.
Write me off-list as this isn't really a JFW problem.

Subject: [JFW] Voice over MSN Messenger

Hi listers,
I am sure this topic has been thrashed out a zillion times but please
bear with me. I have never succeeded in sett9ing up a voice conversation
with MSN Messenger. I have set up the audio and that works. I can do
instant messaging (so it doesnt seem to be a connection problem).
Whenever I right click a contact and select start a voice conversation,
I get his acceptance but I cant hear him nor can he hear me. After a
short time I get the phrase telling me that the conversation has ended.
I must be making an elementary mistake but Im darned if I can find this
out.

I am running Jaws 5, Windows xp professional and I have downloaded the
latest version of MSN Messenger. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Ron.
