I did have this issue with my new hp laptop for work.
I called FS tech support with the usual no help response.
I think, long time ago now, that I fixed the issue by changing synths to a
different ver of eloquence.

I have a Thinkpad X61 running Vista home basic. I am also using the latest
revision of JFW 8. The beginnings of all of the beginnings of Jaws speech
are cut off, and there is a click. Has anyone else experienced this?
For example, instead of saying star, star, star when typing my log in
password, it will say tar, tar, tar.
Sometimes when the computer is plugged into the power, the problem goes
away. If I run Windows Media Player and pause the audio, then the
beginnings of the Jaws speech are not cut off unless I don't hit a key for
about 3 seconds. Then the beginning will get cut off again.
