OK, I found the problem with hotmail. I had Windows Live Messenger installed on
my computer also. When I clicked on the messenger program, it told me that I
needed to update to the latest messenger program. I chose to remove the old
program, and not install another messenger program.

After doing this, hotmail works again.

Apparently the messenger program was coming up with an error message that was
making it impossible to enter the mail.live.com site, plus, JAWS could not read
the error message.

I always do the Insert+z toggle to turn the Virtual Cursor off and back on
when JFW doesn't say anything, except sometimes no links, after a web page is
loaded. Even this doesn't work if the JAWS cursor can't find anything on the
screen. It is somewhat comforting to know that Window-Eyes users have to do
the same type of toggling with their Browse Mode in the same situation.

    That's exactly what I'm experiencing. Usually Alt+Tab in/out, or Windows+M
to minimize all applications, then Alt-Tab back to IE "wakes up JAWS". I do
think it's a focus issue that's gotten worse, not better with each sub-revision.

It's not a focus problem. Even when I use CTRL+f6, I get back to the IE
window, but when I use the arrow keys, there's nothing there.

        Bill,

Not using Hotmail, but I've noted several occasions where opening a web
page on IE7 and using JAWS 12 results in a message to use Alt+Tab to switch.
I've seen other report similar situations on this list, as well.

Somehow JAWS 12 in conjunction with IE7 is losing focus when the page
opens, requiring us to use various methods (F6, Insert+Esc, F5, Alt-Tab,
Screaming) to get JAWS to focus on the web page.

Doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to know that it's very
frustrating. So I wouldn't consider your use of the favorites to be the source
of the problem.

Never saw this with JAWS 11.

I'm using JAWS11, IE7, and Windows XP. Since yesterday, when I try
clicking on my favorite in IE7 for hotmail, IE7 just stalls, and doesn't open
the hotmail page.

If I put in the address:
mail.live.com, the window opens correctly, and I can then navigate to
my inbox.

Once I had done this, I tried replacing my favorite in IE7, but this
was of no help.

When I tried using the new favorite, the same thing happened. The
window opens correctly, however, if I enter the address manually.

Does anyone have the same trouble? And does anyone know what the
actual problem is with IE7 and JAWS?

          Thank you.
