Message Hi, To do a repair of Jaws 8, you must put the Jaws installation CD in your CD drive or run the installation file you downloaded from FS when you originally installed version 8. When you do this on a system that already has Jaws 8 installed, you will get options to repair or modify the installation of Jaws. Select the repair option and hopefully this will fix your problem. One of my colleagues who is partially sighted have been given the assignment to install jaws8 onto our machines. Its not something we can do ourselves as there's a lot of codes that needs to be entered from a printed document. So now jaws8 is installed but I wanted to transfer all my settings from jaws7 to jaws8. In the first place I set jaws' speed and punctuation and I also made a setting in the default config file so that I can be able to use the numpad and extended keys separately. To tell you exactly which settings it is: its in the default configuration file: insert+f6, control+shift+d, I went to the keyboard item on the set options menu and I selected the checkboxes: differentiate between numpad and extended keys and differentiate between left and right shift keys. I also have place markers which I use on my survey page which I want to use and then there is my dictionary files and script files with a few scripts I created for Microsoft word and internet explorer. So I took the shortest route: I went into jaws7's enu folder and I copied everything by pressing control+a and control+c. Then I went to jaws8's enu folder and I pressed control+v and I said: yes to all. So I was impressed when I noticed that the speed of jaws8 is the same as jaws7; the way I set it and all my configuration settings and dictionary files were there. But then suddenly I started getting many annoyances. First of all when I went into Microsoft word I get an error message box teling me that there is a problem with a word mag script file. And then I also got an annoying message: something to do with unknown function call to alerts. That's what I made out it said. It is probably a function in the default script file that went corrupt because I copied everything from jaws7 to jaws8. So then I tried to find the installation maintenance program of jaws8. First I went into the programs menu under my start menu, in jaws8, in tools but there is no installation maintenance; only uninstall jaws. Then I went into a folder under program files called install shield information. And I pressed enter on a setup.exe file, but then jaws said something about: sound max setup and suddenly jaws freezed. So then I restarted but nothing happened. So then I couldn't use my computer at all. So then the I T guys came out and they fixed the problem. They weren't aware that I clicked on a setup file and interrupted the install by restarting, they just said that sound drivers went corrupt. So my colleague wasn't too impressed with me.So now my sound is working again but I still have the problem of my jaws scripts and functions not working correctly because I tried to transfer everything from jaws7 to jaws8. I realized that I should only copied the dictionary files from jaws7 to jaws8 and rather create that few scripts myself all over and set the configuration settings. I made a big balls up by copying everything from jaws7 to jaws8. So now I need to repair jaws and I can't find installation maintenance at all. It seems as if jaws8 doesn't have installation maintenance, only uninstall jaws. Can anyone kindly advise me on how to repair jaws? I want to do it without having to obtain the cd. The jaws cds is kept by my colleague and he is a very cranky person and he won't allow me to use the jaws cds myself and he will jump down on me if he have to repair jaws because I messed up something. So I'm really afraid to Ask Him so I need to repair jaws without him knowing anything. Another alternative is that I can download the jaws8 setup file from freedom scientific onto my flash drive and then at work open the file from my flash drive and it should give me an option to repair, modify or uninstall then I can repair jaws. But I noticed the file is 62 mb. Isn't there another way I can restore the original files without the cd? If my only other alternative is then to download the file and in that way repair jaws should I download the demo which is 58 mb or should I download the http download which is 62 mb. Your help is desperately appreciated. At this stage I haven't really encountered any problems that jaws doesn't read something propperly but it keeps teling me: unknown function call; unknown function call. Even if I go into the start menu and I open up a submenu it says that message to me continuously.
