I met Ted by phone in 1988. I had bought a pc along with JFD, but I did not
have a synthesizer that worked with JFD. I had been using an inexpensive
synthesizer called something like the Echo PC+. I called Henter/Joyce (HJ)
support and told them my problem. Ted took up the case himself and developed a
driver that enable the Echo pc+ to be used with JFD. I found Ted to be very
gracious and willing to go the extra mile to help. I really appreciate all he
did to help resolve my problem, for I was in graduate school at the time, and I
used JFD and Word Perfect 5 to research and write my docteral dissertation.

Do you remember the TotalTalk PC? I think Ted Henter worked with Dean
Blazie at Blazie Engineering to develop screen reading software for it.
Anyways, I used that in 1985, and when JAWS came out it really was much like
the software for the TotalTalk originally, so the learning curve wasn't so
steep. Then we went to Windows and I had to use WindowBridge for a while - no
choice - but was very glad when JAWS for Windows came out.

    Dear Friends,
Well, I met Ted Henter in November 1990 when he came to a Blind Computer
Users Group I had founded here in Miami.
He basically came to say he was developing a Screen Reading software.

I must tell you, I did not take him very serious, nor did I think many of
    the nearly 30 attendents did

I actually chuckled to myself of course, when he took the speakers stand
and
started his presentation, "How does this guy think he can go up against
Digital Equipment Company, DEC Talk, the IBM Screen Reader, Giant
corporations that could throw as much money into their Screen reading
software programs as they cared to".

I had not a clue that he was on to something fantastic!
I remember him as a very kind soft spoken, cordial gentleman.
I am so glad it worked out for him, and us!

    With Best Regards,
    Alan

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I
will in no wise cast out.
  John 6:37

For the pious mind realizes that the punishment of the impious and wicked and
the reward of life eternal for the righteous equally pertain to God's glory.
Besides, this mind restrains itself from sinning, not out of dread of
punishment alone; but, because it loves and reveres God as Father, it worships
and adores him as Lord. Even if there were no hell, it would still shudder at
offending him alone. Here indeed is pure and real religion: faith so joined
with an earnest fear of God that this fear also embraces willing reverence, and
carries with it such legitimate worship as is prescribed in the law. And we
ought to note this fact even more diligently: all men have a vague general
veneration for God, but very few really reverence him; and wherever there is
great ostentation in ceremonies, sincerity of heart is rare indeed. (John
Calvin)
