Hello Lister: Do the following to turn off ANSI announcements in the "DEFAULT.JCF" file. 1. press <INSERT+6> (the number 6 key above the letter keys) to open the JAWS Configuration Manager. 2. Press <CTRL+SHIFT+D> to load the "DEFAULT.JCF" file. 3. Press <ALT+S> to open the settings menu. 4. Press <G> to open the "Graphics and symbols" dialog box. 5. Press the <TAB> key until JAWS says "ANSI Character Verbosity". JAWS announces the current state. 6. Press the <UP ARROW> key until JAWS says "ANSI Character Verbosity None" JAWS will tell you that it is checked and will also tell you that the selection is 1 of 5 or how many items are in the list. 7. <TAB> to the OK button and press <ENTER> to close the dialog. 8. Press <CTRL+S> to save the change to the "DEFAULT.JCF" file. 9. Press <ALT+F4> to close the Configuration Manager. Once you have followed the above procedure, JAWS stops announcing ANSI characters. I hope this helps.
