Bruce,

The caution you recommend is appropriate, and listers are wise to avoid drastic solutions in the hope that easier ones will come in. I see from another thread that I wrote "control key" when I meant "caps lock," so you're also right that we should pause before sending in a suggestion. Still, everyone recognized that yardbird was experiencing a really annoying problem and clearly wanted to help. That's a spirit to be applauded.

It's amazing how many bad suggestions have been placed for this one issue, which Joel solved on his own. Two presses of JAWS key+s did the trick, but the suggestions given ranged from rebooting to shutting down and restarting to insert+spacebar to pressing insert+a. This is why advice on these lists needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Try pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR and check if the "Home Row" is set to "OFF".

Hope this helps.

I was just in a Word document that I was editing, and for no reason I can remember I accidentally hit the jaws key (insert key on my desktop) and something around the upper left of my keyboard. Maybe it was the letter A, in fact that's what I feel as if it was.

Well, whatever I did, all of a sudden jaws began speaking everything from announcing my menu line, the clock every time it changes, the Word measurements in inches now and then, and mysterious numbers now and then like 1 or 4 or whatever,. I closed that document and came here into Outlook Express to compose this plea for help, and even here jaws is speaking every screen element is can find, speaking my every keystroke no matter that I use Insert 2 to toggle it to words as I usually keep it set, and so forth. I can hardly hear myself time because it's always speaking everything I type, individual characters and then words and ten whole lines and I just can't do anything to stop it.

Help. I'm hoping there's just one key combo I must have pressed while in Word that set this off, and I am hoping dearly that it's a toggle so I can stop all this crazy racket.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. it doesn't do any of this when I'm just reading what I've typed. But if
I'm typing, it starts all over again. if that's a clue to someone.
