I agree for the most part, but didn't know Vista installs the actual software for you; that's so cool! I also agree about how you can troubleshoot in Vista. I managed to conclude our network went down this morning, because I ran the new and intuitive Windows diagnostics program. I tried to reset the adaptor as it suggested, and it still didn't work, so I easily made the conclusion that it was a network problem at my university's end, and sure I was right, because I'm online as I write this message.

For me, I'd say that Vista is better because everything is so much easier to find. If I want music, an email, favourites etc, I just do a search on the start menu and up it pops. It's much more intuative than XP and speeds up over time as you use it. My machine starts up very quickly now compared to when I had XP Media Center on it.

Also, I find most hardware installs automatically when you plug it in without having to install the provided software. It doesn't just install the drives, but the software that was included on the cd as well in some cases. For example my logitech quick cam. On XP I don't think it installed at all wihtout the CD, but with Vista not only does it install the driver, but it downloads all the logitech software as well to get full functionality out of it.

Vista is also much easier to sort out when things go wrong which has been very rare, and usually down to my own doing.

You say that you find it more stable, and this I understand. But you also
say that you find it "better." In light of the subject of this thread, which has to do with whether or not having some vision might make it easier to use Vista than to use XP, or vice-versa, what do you mean? In what specific way
or ways do you find Vista better?

thanks very much.

Hello,
I wonder if those who use Vista have enough sight to see the program's
additional Graphic's and Icons and such.

It makes a lot of difference if some one is using a large screen, or
Large Screen magnification software, or needs to use exclusively speech to
run their computers.

Personally I love Vista and woudln't be without it. As for stability, I
can't remember the last time my Vista system crashed and I'm always
playing around with it doing things I probably shouldn't.

I haven't seen the entire thread of this, but it seems to me that those
not liking Vista are those who haven't given a it a chance or want to
stick to what they know.

For someone who hasn't even got lots of experience with XP or less, the
move to Vista would be an easier one. Vista in many ways is easier to use
than XP, and much quicker at allowing you to find what you need etc.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't give up on it so soon.

I can't believe that people who have never tried Vista say that it isn't a good operating system. I remember when XP first came out and people saying it's terrible compared to 98. Sure is a funny world and nothing
changes very much. lol

Hi Alan, Caroline, Chris, Jennifer, & Jim;

Thank you all for your replies. My sister has been working with
computers
for about 30 years and can't stand Vista. Having only been working
with
computers about 4 or 5 years myself I am not familiar with all the
different
operating systems. I am only not very familiar with XP Home. Well, I
guess
I'll start looking for the full version of XP Pro. Thank you all again
for
the advice and have a very Merry Christmas. take care.

Mike

Hello Mike,
I concur with Jim 100 percent.
In fact, like him, I have only had two (2) different Windows systems.
Windows 98 First Edition and Windows XP.
I did use DOS in the Computer Dark Ages and that was strange
compared to
today's computing!

But I have heard muttered complaints about the stability of Vista from
"Sighted People", and it seems Microsoft is not even pushing the
product
like they would if it was a good system.

Remember Microsoft did put out a very bad product once, Windows
Millennium,
terrible stuff, so they do make mistakes!

I would go with XP.
I Never, Never heard a word of complaint about XP from either Sighted
or
Blind folks!

With Best Regards,
Alan

Hi Mike, I have only had 2 different operating systems, Windows 98 and
WindowsXP. There is no comparison, XP is terific it is so much more
stable
I love it. About Vista it is called a"media" OS lots of graphics and
eye
candy your sighted sister would likely find Vista more amusing. But
for
all a round performance and reliability Windows XP is the best! I hope
this helps you. Hears wishing you some great Holidays and great
computing
year-round.

Hi Everybody;

My sister is currently running Windows 2000 Professional for her
operating
system. Would she be better off switching to XP Pro? If she would
be
better off switching to Xp Pro, should she try to get SP2 or SP3?
She
does
not use any screen reading programs or magnification programs, she is
one
of
those so called "normal " people. If Xp would be better for her I
would
like to find it for her for Christmas. She is an extremely avid
computer
user. All information and advice will be
greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much. Have a great weekend
and
take care.

Mike
