Have never worked with Word, but like a challenge, so will have at it.
I just wanted to find out how many lines were going to be printed on a piece
of paper. I just do not like having a single line printed on a second sheet.

If this is addressed to me, or mostly to me, all I can say is yes, I assure
you that Word can provide all the functionality you're looking for, and
more, but it never occurred to me that you might not already be familiar
with Word, or in fact have it and use it. Rather, I thought that you had
some special reasons for wanting to see if you could achieve some of the
same things with the built-in Windows text processors, or HJ Pad, instead.
What I'm saying is very conventional. Word is the main serious word
processor in use today, and has a multitude of capabilities that makes it
enormously different from these others. So, I hope you do take a look at
Word, and if you have to make an effort and take some time to learn to use
it, be aware that it's no waste of time. Word's the real thing for serious
word processing. Notepad is sort of a jazzed-up version of a plain text
editor, and WordPad attempts to go a step farther and offer a few features
that make it resemble Word. But Word is where all the power and flexibility
and capability are.
