What sort of nonsense is this, and how is it related to JAWS?

hey marvin, not that I know of man.
and noone on the list came back with anything, so at least noone around here knows of one. have you googled around for info on whether they exist at all?

my vibe is probably not yet, although if enough demand occurs for them, one
day they might exist.
non-speech output one's I would think
would not be easy to use for vips, and you'd perhaps have far more success
using your computer as your dvd player, using windows media player for
example, where at least you can get some speech feedbakc as to which chapter
your on, and names of shows on the disk if present in a textual format, etc
etc.
this is what I use, the rare times I watch DVD's, but I'm sure other vips
watch them more than I, so maybe around the world there might be other info
on people's experiences in using standalone DVD players connected to TV's.

combing blindCoolTech. you know of that site right,

http://www.blindcooltech.com

I find only one reference to anything like hardware DVD players, and even
then, it's not hardware standalone, it's a guy using windows media centre,
which is a different operating system I think, on the computer, to record a
TV show and make a DVD of it, which is illegal anyway! so, no joy here for
you on this one as yet. it would be interesting though to ascertain what the
rest of the vip world does, when they wish to watch DVD's. I suspect like
me, most would just pop it in their computer and listen to it through their
speakers. note: windows media player10 at least, did not come with it's own
DVD decoding pluggin. you had to actually at least have installed a version
of power DVD first, which may've come with the DVDRom drive in your
computer, before the correct DVD codec would be installed, to then allow the
more vip user friendly front end of windows media player, to be useable, to
navigate and play DVD's.
have you tried this yourself with windows media player 10?

if you pop one in to your computer, what happens at the moment.

does some program pop up to try and handle it, that is, or is not, windows
media player?

if some other program pops up, then it means you've probably got sometihng
that will decode/play dvd's at least, so if it isn't windows meedia player,
dismiss it with alt+f4, then open media player, then use alt+p for the play
menu, then arrow down til you find an option called something like DVD, vcd,
or cd audio etc.
then hit enter on that, and see what happens.
then, to perhaps navigate among chapters, tab a million times, till you here
something like Current playlist.
then use arrows to navigate this and you might/should, find a list of
chapters or shows etc, on the DVD, which may or may not have descriptive
names. hit enter on any one of those, to jump to and play it?
Control+Fand control+B, should jump you back and forward through the
chapters of a given show, and may even jump between shows.

hope this helps a bit.
