I can't replicate the problem described below, using Word 2003. I wrote a short document with two italicized strings, used find to find the first one, then ctrl-pgdn to find the second one and found it successfully. So either the length of the strings is the issue, or the later version of Word.

Otherwise, you want to bring it into Word if possible. Now use word find, Ctrl-f, and hit ctrl-b to search for bold text.
