Hi,
Nice idea, but in the case of a DAISY book, I need to know which extension to point to. ? There could be a .xml, .opf, .ncx and .smil, not to mention a whole bunch of .mp3 files.

If you want an application to open up the daisy books directly, right click the files with that particular extension, and selection open with, then choose the fs program. You can then shortcut the item on the desktop. Just a thought. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Lange" <trlange@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Subject: FS Reader Question

Hi all,
Here's a question concerning FS Reader. Does FS Reader support command-line arguments so that it can directly open a book that's passed to it? Here's the deal. I'm an instructor working at a center which trains people to use computers with JAWS, Magic and mainstream office applicationss, et cetera et cetera.

I have three textbooks in DAISY format that I want to make available to students. The books are for Excel, Outlook and Word, and they reside on a server and can be accessed easily over a local area network. Let's suppose for a moment that I can set up network shares at each workstation in the classroom, and I can map the network drive such that the folder containing the textbooks is available as a drive within My Computer or Windows Explorer. For purposes of discussion, we'll call it drive T, for Textbooks.

I want to set up shortcuts on the students' desktops that point directly to the textbooks in question, and I want to do it so that when the students activate the shortcuts, FS Reader opens with the textbook ready to read using FS Reader. I don't want them to have to use the Open dialog in FS Reader and use the Change Directory button to bring up a Browse function where they have to hunt for the DAISY books. That's too complicated for a computer novice. We're talking one-click access here, so to speak.

Can this be done? I don't see anything in FS Reader's help system that indicates that I can do anything like what I'm describing here. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Tom
