Do you have to use the complete email address when creating message rules?

Hi list members, i'd like to know if you have to use the complete e mail address when writing message rules? I would say yes because, i've not been able to get the mail for any of my messages going in to the right folders. I can be reached at dingram269@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thank you.
