No no, he's not talking about the jaws dictionary. He's talking about
word's dictionary where you can add words while in the spell checker. In
the spell checker there is an add button that you can press if the spell
checker encountered a name and you want to add it to the dictionary so
that it will not see it as a mistake the next time it encounters it.
The problem that tickpub is encountering is that although he adds words
to the spelling dictionary the spell checker still pops up the word as a
mistake. Adrian, The dictionary you are thinking of is jaws'
dictionary where you can have jaws pronounced a word differently than
what it is written on the screen; nothing to do with spell checker.
Tickpub, It might be that the current spelling dictionary is full. In
that case you must go into your options under the tools menu. Go to the
spelling tab and go to the combo box where you select the dictionaries.
Remove the current dictionary and then if you add words in the spell
checker it will create a new dictionary. It also happened to me that the
dictionary became full. So see if you can find a remove button in that
dialogue. If not, then you have to click edit and delete the contents
of that dictionary like you would do with a normal word document and
then save the dictionary and close it. hth

You need to press control-s to save your JAWS dictionary additions
before exiting.

Also, in case this is relevant, before adding to the dictionary, you
need to decide if you want the change or changes to stay with that
program only or with all applications. If you want to make the change
affect all applications, press control-shift-d before adding the new
entries. You need do so only once for each dictionary session, no matter
how many words you add, and the same with control-s to save them.

I know of no way you can add an external dictionary to MS Word. If there
is, I'm sure someone on the list will tell us.--
