Chip,
Can the hanging last for over 10-15 minutes? I've never had that kind of
hanging so don't know what to expect in how long to wait to see.

This HP laptop has both a mini PCI G wireless and a 10/100 Ethernet on it.
The 10/100 Ethernet is disabled, but it's drivers are up to date as best I
can determine according to what Microsoft or HP has. The G wireless is also
similarly up to date, and is what is in use for network/internet. I've
never had any wireless hang problems and I've used a wide variety of
wireless products from no particular vendor.

I don't use any software firewall; I have a Linksys WRT54G that is up to
date on its firmware and have had no problems with it up to this point. Not
saying there isn't something weird going on now with this updated HP system
on the network, and very likely I am encountering something strange here now
because I am somewhat out of date on the latest, greatest hardware. Most
likely I am going to be scratching my head over this one for some time to
come; it appears it is going to take dumb luck to get it solved.
