Hi,
Chkdsk will run under Windows if you don't check the boxes mentioned below.
The one for "automatically fix errors" I believe is the one which runs it
upon reboot.
The other one does what Scandisk used to call a surface test and runs under
Windows.
Jon C. Pierson
can run this okay, but, can't read results. Only runs on restart because windows needs exclusive access to some files. Does anyone know where the log is if any?

I remember chkdsk fondly. I think "error checking" in XP replaced scan disk. To access it, enter "my computer", hit alt enter on the hard drive to be checked, control tab once to tools where you will find error checking. After you enter on that, there are two automatic fix options. If you check those, it will take longer.

Check Disk, did not replace Scan disk.
Check Disk has been a program built into all Microsoft operating systems since the first release of MS-DOS.
As for Scan Disk, many of its functions have been integrated as an integral part of Windows XP, That is why it is not included as a program in Windows XP nome and professional.
