Laura,

Thanks for chiming in with this quote from the Help files. This is what
everyone else has reported, too, and what seemed intuitive to me. So far as
I understood, that menu has always been meant to provide temporary
resetting. And now the copy item is an exception. And that's that. But FS
seems to be inconsistent in how it describes this.

Thanks.

Hi, Yardbird,

My experience has been that the copy web page option is permanent, while all
other Insert-V settings are temporary, and return back to your defaults once
you close Internet Explorer. If this is truly not how that's supposed to
function, then I'll log a problem report with FS immediately.

However, I don't believe the Insert-V settings are meant to be permanent. I
copied the following paragraph from the JAWS 9.0 Help. Please note the use
of the word temporarily in the second sentence. So this seems to be the
official declaration from FS. The bulleted item you quote below does appear
in the What's New, but without further explanation from FS, it doesn't seem
to be the reality, especially when the help says otherwise.

In HTML documents, JAWS provides a high level of flexibility so you may work
in the way you find most comfortable. The Adjust JAWS Options (verbosity)
tree view (INSERT+V) allows you to temporarily change settings which control
what types of information and how much of it JAWS provides. To find out more
about these settings or to change them permanently, use the HTML Options
dialog from within the Configuration Manager.

I just thought I would post this because, even though at least one lister
also posted the relevant information earlier, other people continued to
offer varying opinions, like "the copy Web page option toggle is permanent
but all the rest of the changes you make are still temporary, and so forth.
I don't know why no one seems to have accepted the official declaration from
FS. But here is the bulleted line again, from the URL pasted beneath it.
Hope this helps. I really regret that, even though I read that list a week
or two ago, I'd forgotten this announcement and asking on the list
unfortunately served only to inspire a fruitless discussion of which items
on that menu were permanent and which weren't, all in contradiction to what
FS says. So if you change some setting while on a Web page, but it reverts
to what it was before if you leave the page and return to it, then I think
that's worth a note or call to FS development or tech support.

Here's the bulleted item from the What's New list:

. JAWS now saves all changes made to options using the Adjust JAWS Options
dialog box.

and here's the URL where that What's New list and other explanations are to
be found. Sorry if you're using Jaws 9 and when Glenn announces the begniing

and end of the link he sounds as if he's experiencing gastric distress. This

feature really has to go. Everybody write in and complain about it,
please.aving oif
